G'ma Jo went with me on one of the trips I organized to Costa Rica. What a joy! She hit it off right away with our host, my "mom" from Costa Rica and even though they didn't speak each others' languages, they got along famously. Every day was an adventure, but the one that most stays with me is the day we went spelunking at the "Cuevas del Venado" (The Deer Caves). We had hard hats, flashlights, and rubber boots and ventured through vaults that had bats and blind tarantulas, all the while wading through the stream that ran through it. After the tour the guide told us she was the oldest woman to do the tour and he called her "Una señora valiente", a valiant woman. Yes, she was.
